Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department Festival: “INARfest” – 6th Edition
12 Guests, 7 Seminars, 2 Workshops
Yaşar University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Festival “INARfest”, of which the sixth edition was held in the 2020-2021 Fall semester, was realized between 7-11 December 2020 in online format on two different platforms, Sakai and Zoom. The event, which is open to external participation as well as the participation of Yaşar University Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students, aims to create a kind of “experience break” after the midterm week, that is, a festival atmosphere, by means of various seminars and workshops.
7 seminars and 2 workshops were organized in online format within the scope of INARfest. The seminars that received great attention from various audience are specified in the following: Interior Design: Experiences, Yesterday & Today (by Service Designer Alper Karagöz, Product Designer Onur Besen and Interior Architect Bilgehan Ekiz from Naif Design), Redesign Process Studies (by Product and Experience Designer Meltem Parlak from Birsel + seck), Typography and Information Design Basics for Interior Architecture presentation (by Esin Nalbantoğlu, Founder and Art&Creative Designer of Emma Krafft), Inclusive Urban Design: User-Friendly Streets for Life (by Assoc.Prof. Yasemin Afacan), Material Information for Street Furniture (by Industrial Designer Mustafa Biçer), Recontextualization of the ‘Museum-Salon’ Practice (by Industrial Designer Esra Bici Nasır) and Researching What Architecture Is Capable of (by Architect Boğaçhan Dündaralp, Founder of DDRLP Design Office). In addition to the seminars, the workshops entitled as Integral Part of the Structure: Staircases (moderated by Interior Architect Fulya Ballı) and Green Interiors (by Landscape Architects Elvin Sönmez Güler and İpek Altuğ Turan) drew considerable interest.
As the outcome of the seminars and workshops that lasted throughout the day, interior architecture students had both the opportunity to be informed about the design processes, materials and theories, the chance to work collectively in online platforms during their design process, and the chance to exchange information with the seminar and workshop guests who participated in the event. Through hosting an interdisciplinary festival with the participation of not only the current Yaşar University Faculty of Architecture students but also the graduates and people from the design environment, pleasant discussion environments were created during the festival.
